MSU Billings has a new program for students and is looking for passionate and hardworking victim advocates. The Phoenix Center is a 24 hour help-line for survivors of sexual violence. Help-lines offer an opportunity for callers to talk about their feelings to someone who is empathic and respects their experience. An advocate’s task is to listen, support, validate feelings, assist with problem clarification and solving, provide information and education, and offer referrals, if needed.
Training: All advocates must attend a 20 hour training program.
On Call Hours:
· On-call shifts run 24 hours. Each advocate is asked to take three shifts per month and at least two weekend shifts per semester.
· The on-call advocate will carry a phone and respond to all calls immediately.
Commitment: Volunteers are expected to commit for one semester, but have the option to stay on for one academic school year.
